For Miami Beach patients, a Florida card begins with an in-person exam at our Fort Myers office, 2540 Winkler Ave Ste 1, by a qualified physician. In Florida, that role is open only to MDs and DOs holding active, unrestricted licenses, and only after they successfully complete a 2-hour course and examination, which they must pass again before each license renewal. How do I get a medical marijuana card in Miami Beach, Florida?
Miami Beach patients get a Florida medical marijuana card in three steps.
First, book your first evaluation in person at our Fort Myers office with a Dr. Green Relief qualified physician, as Florida law requires.
Second, the physician decides whether to certify you. Your physician reviews your medical history and confirms you have a qualifying condition. The physician must also judge that the likely benefits outweigh the risks for you and record that in your medical record.
Third, register with the state. Complete your OMMU ID card application online and pay the $75 fee. The OMMU reports an average of 10 business days to approve an online application.
What conditions qualify for a medical marijuana card in Miami Beach?
Section 381.986(2) of the Florida Statutes names the following qualifying conditions:
- Cancer
- Epilepsy
- Glaucoma
- HIV (positive status)
- AIDS
- Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Terminal conditions, when the diagnosis comes from a physician who is not the one certifying you
- Chronic nonmalignant pain that comes from a qualifying condition and persists beyond the usual course of that condition
What if your diagnosis is not named? The statute lets a qualified physician certify a condition of the same kind or class as, or comparable to, one of the ten named diseases, for example some cases of anxiety, depression, migraines or neuropathy. Terminal conditions and chronic pain are not part of that comparison. Your physician makes that decision after examining you, and no visit comes with a promise that you will be certified. During your evaluation, your doctor will review your medical records and determine eligibility under Florida law.
How much does a medical marijuana evaluation cost near Miami Beach?
New patient evaluations at our Fort Myers office are $99, and renewals and physician transfers can be booked through that office as well. The Florida OMMU also charges a separate $75 annual state registration fee, plus $2.75 if you pay online. Seasonal residents pay that same $75. They qualify to apply by spending 31 or more straight days in Florida every calendar year, holding a temporary Florida residence, returning to their home state at least once each year, and being registered to vote or paying income tax in another state.
