In North Charleston, medical marijuana is not legal: South Carolina issues no medical marijuana card, though a physician licensed in South Carolina may certify a patient with severe epilepsy for low-THC CBD. North Charleston residents fall under the same statewide ban on marijuana possession.

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture licenses hemp growing, handling and processing under the 2019 Hemp Farming Act. There is no North Charleston marijuana card for any doctor to help you get, because no law creates one. A first charge for an ounce or less is a misdemeanor that a magistrate or municipal judge can handle. The city’s municipal court sits in North Charleston City Hall, 2500 City Hall Lane.

What Does South Carolina Law Mean for Marijuana Doctors in North Charleston?
The Senate passed S. 150 in February 2022, but on May 4, 2022 the House ruled the bill out of order. A medical card from another state does not protect a North Charleston resident from a possession charge under S.C. Code 44-53-370.
S. 53 would allow chronic pain only where an opioid could be prescribed, with the physician attesting to its cause. Dr. Green Relief has no office in South Carolina and does not offer evaluations there; its offices are in Florida and in Las Vegas, Nevada.
No North Charleston marijuana doctor can certify you for a card program, because South Carolina has none; the written certification in state law is for cannabidiol and severe epilepsy. Driving while marijuana materially and appreciably impairs you is DUI under section 56-5-2930, with a first-offense $400 fine or 48 hours to 30 days in jail. South Carolina has no medical marijuana card system, so there is no registry to enter.

A South Carolina Medical Marijuana Card Program does not exist in 2026. Two bills the Senate passed, S. 150 in February 2022 and S. 423 in February 2024, ended in the House, which ruled the first out of order and never moved the second out of committee. S. 53, the 2025 bill, has been in the Senate Medical Affairs Committee since January 14, 2025.
