Your Des Moines Cannabis Card is the medical cannabidiol registration card Iowa HHS issues under the Medical Cannabidiol Act. WORKS IN DES MOINES
Iowa’s program is run from Des Moines: the HHS Bureau of Cannabis Regulation sits in the Lucas State Office Building at 321 E. 12th Street and oversees Iowa’s Medical Cannabis Program. The program office takes calls at 1-877-214-9313. Cardholders who move or change their name must tell HHS within ten calendar days, and a lost card is replaced on showing the photo ID used to apply.
Des Moines marijuana patients under 18 take part through a registered primary caregiver: an adult who lives in Iowa or a bordering state and is named on the practitioner’s form. The caregiver card costs $25, and the caregiver, who must be 18 or older, shows an Iowa or bordering-state driver’s license, or an Iowa non-operator ID. Adult patients may also have a caregiver designated on the practitioner’s form.

Not sure how Iowa’s medical cannabidiol program works? Think of it as three steps. Your practitioner decides whether to certify you, you register online with Iowa HHS, and you buy from a licensed dispensary. The program bars smoking, and use is not allowed in public places, on school property or at a dispensary. Patients also remain subject to Iowa’s OWI law, Iowa Code chapter 321J.
