Certification comes first: a qualified physician examines you, in person the first time, and decides whether to certify you. Only a qualified physician can issue that certification, and section 381.986(1)(n) limits the role to an MD or DO whose Florida license is active and unrestricted; under section 381.986(3)(a), the physician must also complete a 2-hour course and examination before approval and again before every license renewal. With the certification, you can apply for a Florida marijuana card. Once your card is approved, medical use that follows Florida law carries no criminal or civil liability under state law. Our staff can tell you how much you can legally buy and carry with your card. Florida keeps the registry that holds your certification confidential under section 381.987. Your visit is confidential, and your physician certification lasts up to 210 days before a renewal visit.

After examining you, a qualified physician may also certify you for another condition, such as some cases of anxiety, depression, migraines or neuropathy, if it is of the same kind or class as, or comparable to, one of the listed conditions other than a terminal condition or chronic nonmalignant pain; that decision is at the physician’s discretion, and certification is never promised. Miami-Dade patients can be evaluated for any of these conditions at our Fort Myers office.
How much does a medical marijuana card cost in Miami?
Our Fort Myers office charges $99 for new patient evaluations and also books renewals and patient transfers. The state of Florida separately charges a $75 OMMU registration fee paid annually, plus a $2.75 convenience fee if paid online. That state fee is paid to the Florida Department of Health, not to Dr. Green Relief.
Is telemedicine available for Miami medical marijuana evaluations?
Yes, for renewals only. A first certification is always an in-person exam, which Miami patients have at our Fort Myers office. After that, the physician who examined you in person may renew your certification by telemedicine, so a Miami-Dade County patient may be able to renew without driving back to Fort Myers. Your state ID card is renewed separately with the OMMU each year. Audio-only calls are allowed for these renewals under Florida’s telehealth rule.
Can I use my Miami medical marijuana card at dispensaries throughout Florida?
Yes. Any licensed medical marijuana treatment center statewide, not only those in Miami-Dade County, can fill your order while your ID card is active and your physician certification is current. Closer to home, the OMMU list dated above showed 20 dispensing locations in Miami and 6 in Miami Beach, and none with a Coral Gables address.
