A recommending provider does not have to practice in West Jordan: Utah accepts any Utah-licensed recommending provider, whether a physician, APRN, physician assistant or, within podiatry, a podiatrist. To be eligible for a medical marijuana card in West Jordan, you need that provider’s certification in the EVS.

Utah Medical Marijuana Card Program
How does the Utah Medical Marijuana Card Program work for West Jordan patients? Utah lawmakers passed the Medical Cannabis Act, HB 3001, in a special session on December 3, 2018, and most of HB 389’s 2026 changes took effect on May 6, 2026. West Jordan applicants use the state’s Electronic Verification System (EVS), run by the Center for Medical Cannabis, whose duties Utah law moves to the Department of Agriculture and Food by January 1, 2027. Adults 21 and older with a listed condition then need a Utah recommending provider to certify them for a Utah Cannabis Card. If you are 18 to 20, or your condition is not on the state list, a petition must first go to the Compassionate Use Board, which recommends whether the state should approve it, and a decision can take up to 90 days.

There are two costs associated with obtaining your Utah Medical Marijuana Card. 1) Your provider’s visit fee. 2) The state card fee, which Utah’s Center for Medical Cannabis collects after your provider certifies you.
Utah Medical Marijuana Laws
