Medical Marijuana Doctor for Clearwater Patients
Clearwater patients who book with us have the in-person exam Florida law requires before a first certification at our office nearest by road, in Tampa, about 22 miles away; we have no office in Clearwater. The Tampa evaluation for a new patient is $199, and the Clearwater cost answer below sets out the state ID card fees.
The address of that Tampa office is 4600 N Habana Ave Ste 32. Only a qualified physician may certify you, a status the OMMU list lets you check. Florida grants that status only to MDs and DOs whose Florida licenses are active and unrestricted, and section 381.986(3)(a) has each of them pass a 2-hour course and exam before approval, then again before every license renewal.
A Clearwater patient’s path has four steps. First, choose a time for the Tampa visit with any Book button here, and on the day bring your valid Florida driver license or ID card, or, if you are an adult seasonal resident without a valid one, two proofs of a Florida address, along with whatever medical records you have. Second, a qualified physician at our Tampa office examines you, reviews your medical history and decides whether your condition qualifies. Third, if you are certified, the physician records it in the Medical Marijuana Use Registry, and only after that can you complete your online application to the OMMU for your ID card; the OMMU cards page puts the average approval time for online applications at 10 business days, and its weekly update gives separate times. Fourth, once the card is approved, any licensed dispensing location in Florida can fill your order.
Before certifying you, the physician must find that medical marijuana would likely outweigh its potential health risks in your case and document that finding in your medical record. You also sign an informed consent form, which includes a warning against operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery. If the physician cannot make that finding, no certification is issued. Money-back guarantee: if the physician does not certify you at your visit, your evaluation fee is refunded. The $75 state ID card fee is paid to the Florida Department of Health and is not part of this refund.

Chronic Pain and Medical Marijuana for Clearwater Patients
Florida’s list names pain in one defined form, chronic nonmalignant pain, and the physician at our Tampa office applies the statute’s wording.
The statute’s term is chronic nonmalignant pain: pain caused by, or originating from, a qualifying medical condition that lasts beyond that condition’s usual course. Pain without an underlying qualifying condition does not meet that definition, although the physician may consider whether the condition behind your pain passes the comparable-condition test set out below. If you take opioids or other prescribed pain medicine, bring the list, because the physician reviews your full medical history before deciding.
If you are certified, the physician enters in the registry your qualifying condition, your daily dose and the amount and forms of marijuana authorized for you. A dispensary then sells Clearwater patients, like every Florida patient, no more than a 70-day supply in any 70-day period.
Certification is not a one-time step: under s. 381.986(4)(g), a qualified physician must evaluate an existing patient at least once every 30 weeks before a new certification can be issued. Clearwater patients book that follow-up at the same Tampa office.

Florida Marijuana Card Basics
Florida law lets a Clearwater patient with an approved ID card buy from a licensed treatment center the amounts and forms in the physician certification, and possess them within the state limits. Growing your own is not allowed: a patient who cultivates marijuana, or buys or acquires it from anyone other than a treatment center, violates s. 893.13 and is subject to its penalties.
Carry the ID card whenever you have marijuana with you, once it arrives. Under s. 381.986(12)(e), a patient who fails or refuses to show it when a law enforcement officer asks commits a second-degree misdemeanor, unless the registry shows the patient is authorized.
Florida
Marijuana Card Fee
Our evaluation fee for a Florida marijuana card is listed on this page. Florida bills its ID card fee separately, and if that online payment is returned or declined, the state adds a $15 service fee and you must mail a check or money order for the total.
Once your physician certifies you, the state charges its own fee to register you in the program. That state ID card fee is $75 a year, plus $2.75 online. Under s. 381.986(4)(a)1, a qualified physician may certify you only after examining you, so book each re-certification visit from the renewal tile on this page. Florida’s constitution does not require health insurers or government agencies to reimburse medical marijuana expenses (Art. X, s. 29(c)(7)), and marijuana is not reimbursable under workers’ compensation, so ask your health plan whether it covers an evaluation. See our FAQ for details.
Florida Medical
Marijuana Laws
Florida treats cannabis possession without a card as a crime, even when you use it for pain. The penalty is set by statute. Possessing 20 grams or less of cannabis without a card, not counting resin or anything prepared from resin, is a first-degree misdemeanor in Florida. Once certified and approved, Clearwater patients may buy lab-tested cannabis products only from licensed dispensaries, the businesses Florida law calls medical marijuana treatment centers, and the physician at our Tampa office goes over those rules at your visit.
Clearwater
Marijuana Dispensaries
Your card works at all licensed dispensaries in Florida, not only the ones in Clearwater. Treatment centers may deliver to qualified patients at any hour, but none may dispense from its premises between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., so check a location’s hours before you go.

FAQ
Which conditions qualify a Clearwater patient for a Florida medical marijuana card?
Florida law (section 381.986(2), Florida Statutes) lists these qualifying medical conditions:
- Cancer
- Epilepsy
- Glaucoma
- HIV (positive status)
- AIDS
- Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- A terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the one who certifies you
- Chronic nonmalignant pain caused by, or originating from, a qualifying medical condition and lasting beyond its usual course
After examining you, a qualified physician may also certify you for another condition, such as some cases of anxiety, depression, migraines or neuropathy, if it is of the same kind or class as, or comparable to, one of the listed conditions other than a terminal condition or chronic nonmalignant pain; that decision is at the physician’s discretion, and certification is never promised.
Can I use my out-of-state medical marijuana card in Clearwater?
No. The OMMU states that Florida does not offer reciprocity, so a card from another state will not be accepted at a Clearwater dispensary. A seasonal resident may join the program after certification, and section 381.986(5)(b) defines a seasonal resident as “any person who temporarily resides in this state for a period of at least 31 consecutive days in each calendar year, maintains a temporary residence in this state, returns to the state or jurisdiction of his or her residence at least one time during each calendar year, and is registered to vote or pays income tax in another state or jurisdiction”; if that resident is an adult without a valid Florida driver license or ID card, the ID card application needs two proofs of a Florida address.
What cannabis products can I buy in Clearwater with a medical marijuana card?
You can buy from licensed treatment centers (MMTCs) up to the amounts and forms in your physician certification. Smokable flower is capped at 2.5 oz per 35 days unless the Department of Health approves more, and an edible serving may not exceed 10 mg of THC.
Is there a dispensary near Clearwater I can visit after getting certified?
Yes. Clearwater had 13 locations on the OMMU dispensing list on October 8, 2026, and Pinellas County had 54. Your Florida medical marijuana card is valid statewide, so you can use any licensed dispensing location in Florida, not only those in Clearwater.
How often do Clearwater patients renew, and where?
Florida requires two separate renewals:
Physician recertification: At least once every 30 weeks (210 days)
State ID card renewal: Once per year through the MMUR portal ($75 state fee)
Clearwater patients book each recertification visit at our Tampa office. The OMMU accepts an ID card renewal application starting 45 days before the card expires.
How much does a medical marijuana card cost for Clearwater patients?
For a Clearwater patient, the first card means two payments: $199 to Dr. Green Relief for the new patient evaluation in Tampa, and, if you are certified, the state’s $75 yearly ID card fee, which goes to the Florida Department of Health, with $2.75 more when you pay that fee online.
